• In the Achyranthes clade, genera Achyropsis and Nototrichium are merged to make Achyranthes monophyletic. A taxonomic backbone with full synonymy for the achyranthoid subclade II is provided.
• Forty-one fossil species from the Late Miocene to the Pliocene, belonging to seven extinct cricetine genera, were analyzed and confirmed the monophyly of most of the genera. The genus Kowalskia is confirmed as junior synonym of Neocricetodon.
• A new genus and species of the Anguinidae nematode, Turbiditylenchus corticeus n. gen., n. sp., was isolated from the bark of Eucalyptus macrorhyncha from southeastern Australia.

• Genomes of Acrasids amoebae (the only known example of multicellularity among the earliest branches of eukaryotes) are rich in novelty and have strong signatures of horizontal gene transfer. It seems that much of the basic tool kit for multicellular development arose early in eukaryote evolution.

• Closely related Ishikawaella strains coexist in the same Plataspidae stinkbug host, and evidence for host–symbiont coevolution at the population level in is provided.
• Comparisons of E. japonicum 18S sequences with Glomeromycota DNA sequences available in a public database indicated that E. japonicum is a cosmopolitan species and is mainly associated with plants in natural habitats such as grasslands, shrublands, and forests.
• The total number of Phlomoides species in China increases to 64. Diagnostic characters, updated morphological descriptions, detailed illustrations, and a key that encompasses all 16 Phlomoides species found in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region are provided.
