The fish-borne trematode parasite Clinostomum complanatum, that infects the throats of birds and can also cause laryngeal infections in humans, is discovered in perch, in a new geographic location outside the native distribution range(Doubs River in continental France). The parasite represents an economic loss for the local freshwater aquaculture industry, and a possible zoonotic risk for consumers if raw or marinated fish is consumed.
